Abstract

18,005. Borchardt, H. Feb. 28, [Convention date]. Breech actions; sliding breech-block. - Relates to mechanism for preventing the closing of the breech of automatic guns when the magazine is empty, and consists in providing a detent which acts directly on the return - spring, and thus, by holding it compressed, prevents it from closing the breech. The invention is shown in Fig. 1 applied to a toggle-link action in which the return-spring f is connected to one of the toggle links by a chain g. When the magazine is empty, a projection z<1> on the cartridge follower z engages a detent b and causes it to engage the spring f and hold it compressed, as shown in Fig. 4. The detent b may be so formed that the pressure of the spring f forces the front end b<1> of the detent against the breechblock k, which is thereby frictionally held in position.
