Abstract

3375. Moeller, J., and Woltereck, H. C. Feb. 10. Coking processes.-In coking coal in the presence of superheated steam, the steam and hydrocarbon vapours coming from the retorts are passed through heated retorts containing coke for the purpose of obtaining a large quantity of light oils by cracking heavier oils. A double set of retorts is used, and when the retorts are sufficiently hot (about 700‹ C.), superheated steam at from 400-600‹ C. is introduced at low pressure into the retorts containing the coal.
