Abstract
27,869. Perkins, W. G. Dec. 3. Reverberatory furnaces.-In a non-reversible gas-fired reverberatory furnace for copper-smelting, a device, such as a dust chamber, is provided between the furnace and the regenerator to remove dust from the waste gases. In the arrangement shown in the Figures, of which Fig. 3 is a section on line 3-3 of Fig. 1, gas is supplied to the furnace a from ports f alternating with secondary air ports g. The waste gases pass through the flue h to a dust-chamber b, provided with baffles l, and pass thence upwards through one of the regenerators c, c<1>, which are alternately connected with the wastegas flue m and a flue n, leading to the air ports g, by suitable dampers. The greater part of the dust in the gases is deposited in the chamber b, through which the gases flow at reduced speed.
