Abstract

15,480. Blair, T. S. July 10, 1911, [Convention date]. Open-hearth furnaces; slay, collecting and removing.-The slag pockets in the flues of a regenerative furnace are made separate from the main furnace structure so that they can readily be removed for cleaning. In the form shown, the pockets 12 are carried by a truck 9 and are situated at the lower ends of the flues between the gas and air ports 5 and the regenerators. The spaces 15 between the pockets and the furnace are filled by temporary brickwork, and the arches 7 are supported on a suitable metal framing 14. The port structure 5 is of the form described in Specification 21,010/07.
