Abstract

26,560. Atkinson, C. C. Nov. 19. Exhaust - silencers.- The exhaust gases enter a chamber a and pass by flap valves g into a chamber b. A number of hinged vanes s separate the chamber b from a chamber c, the outlet from which is either in the form of a number of tubes or nozzles w. Air is induced through cowls 2 by the exhaust passing through the nozzles, the mixed air and gases impinging on to a fan 3 or a number of stationary fan blades. Air may be admitted to either of the chambers. The silencer is readily taken to pieces for cleaning.
