Abstract
1,202,095. Air filter on I.-C. engine. DONALDSON CO. Inc. 11 March, 1968 [13 March, 1967], No. 11754/68. Heading BIT. [Also in Division F1 Exhaust gases from an I.-C. engine entering an exhaust silence at 55, Fig. 3, blow through a venturi 60 into the throat of which opens an air inlet tube 65 in which a suction is developed which is used for cleaning an air filter 15. In Fig. 1 the suction tube 65 is connected by a pipe 24, containing a non-return valve 25 preventing back flow, to a connection 17 of an intake manifold air filter 15, the suction serving to remove dirt from the filter. The silencer includes expansion chambers 45..47, the exhaust inlet pipe 55 having perforations opening into chamber 45. The non- return valve 25 includes a normally open flap (28), Fig. 6 (not shown) which closes automatically to prevent exhaust gases reaching the filter 15.
