Combing-machines.-The detaching-rollers of a combing-machine of the Heilmann type are driven by a rack-and-pinion arrangement controlled by a cam having two tracks b, c, the former reciprocating the sliding arm a, at the straight end of which the rack j is formed, and the latter actuating an arm d which holds the rack in gear with a pinion e against the action of a spring p. The forked end of the sliding arm a embraces a block k on the cam shaft i. The cams are designed in such a manner that the rack is stationary when the arm d is moved to place it in gear with the pinion. The pinion e is in gear connexion with the detaching-roller h. The rack is kept out of contact with the pinion during part of the return journey.
