Abstract

4425. Lunn, R. N. Feb. 22. Combing-machines. - The detaching-rollers of Heilmann and like combing - machines are driven through a differential gear combined with a cam or eccentric and with a source of uniform motion. The usual rocking-segment E operated by the cam F imparts, through the medium of the shaft D and gear - box G, the necessary reciprocation to the shaft C of the detaching-roller. C o ntinuous rotary motion is also imparted to the gear-box from the comb shaft A by gearing a<1> ... a<4>. The resultant motion imparted to the detaching-roller is thus, during one movement of the segment E, the sum of two rotations, and during the return movement of the segment, the difference of the two rotations. The cam F is so shaped that, for a part of the time, the two rotations neutralize one another. The segment may be done away with and the shaft D oscillated by an arm, the end of which is moved by the cam.
