Abstract

Couplings, disconnectible, adapted for hydrant and stand-pipe connexions have radially moving blocks b with screw - threaded inner faces adapted to project through openings in a socket member a and engage the screw-threaded spigot member d. The blocks are pivotally mounted and are moved into engagement by an external sliding sleeve c. To ensure the blocks moving out of engagement on sliding back the sleeve, the sleeve may be suitably tapered or springs may be used. The sleeve c carries pins e which engage with corresponding slots b<2> in the blocks b leading to an annular groove a<2> on the socket. By rotating the sleeve when coupling has been effected, the pins enter the groove a<2> and lock the sleeve against endlong movement. In a modification, the blocks are slidably mounted and are connected to plate springs which move them out of engagement.
