Abstract

10,087. Manson, T. April 29. Buoyant life-saving chambers. - An escapa chamber A for submarine and other vessels is of conical or wedge-shaped form and fits into a well G of corresponding shape, the chamber or the well, or both, being provided with ball or roller bearings L to facilitate egress. In the case of submarine boats, the chamber, the top of which is flush with the deck, is held in position by screws J, which engage a shoulder K or slot in the well, and its escape is facilitated by means of pipes A' provided with cocks B' by means of which the well may he flooded. The chamber is provided at the top and bottom with man-hole doors F, a door H being provided in the well corresponding with the lower door F. For other ships, the cabins are provided with wedge-shaped parts which rest in similar wells, in order that they may act as escape chambers.
