Abstract
100,346. Electric Boat Co., (Assignees of Spear, L. Y.). April 23, 1915, [Convention date]. Submarine vessels.-In a submarine vessel of the type comprising strong and relatively weak inner and outer hulls respectively, the space between the hulls being used as ballast tanks, the fuel tank 28 is located directly beneath the engines 25, and where exposed to the sea, this tank is made strong enough to withstand the pressure of deep submergence, as shown in Fig. 7. The space 29 is used for ballast and is extended aft on opposite sides of the propelling-engine and fuel tank. An adjusting-tank by which the reserve buoyancy is established is formed by dividing off a section amidships of the between-hull space, and as this compartment 22, Fig. 8, is not completely filled with water ballast at all times that the boat is submerged, the walls 23 are made of heavy plating like the inner hull section.
