Abstract

24,165. Massal, L. A. Oct. 31. Buoys.-An apparatus for rescuing the crew of a submarine boat consists of a buoyant cylindrical chamber 10 mounted in a well 2 in the boat and divided into a number of compartments by horizontal partitions, in the lowest of which are situated means for propelling and steering the chamber when on the surface. The well is provided with a series of rollers 7 to permit the easy escape of the chamber 10. Watertight doors 5, 6 are provided in the chamber and well respectively. The chamber is released from the well by the screw 9, and water is introduced into the well in order to float the chamber by a tube controlled by a cock 36. A rack gear may be provided to facilitate the egress of the buoy from the well.
