Abstract

7741. Wood, F. A. March 30. Spray carburettors.-The air and fuel valves are simultaneously actuated by suction, and the relative positions of the valves can be varied. The valve C, which controls air ports a<5>, is actuated by suction transmitted to the chamber a<3> containing a piston D subjected on its underside to atmospheric pressure through an aperture a<7>, The fuel is controlled by a plug H, which is connected to the air-valve C by a lever K and link M, Fig. 3. The lever K fits loosely on the spindle of the plug H, but is connected to a lever J which is fixed to the plug spindle through a milled disk P and a pin working in the slot p<3>. By means of this disk, the relative positions of the levers, and therefore of the air and fuel valves, can be adjusted. The extent of opening of the fuelvalve is adjusted by means of a pin m<3> and holes k<1>. A groove e<2> in an extension e<1> of the throttle E allows air to pass the fuel-orifice when the throttle is closed, and prevents dripping of petrol. A small air-port f<1> leads to the petrol passage.
