Abstract

318,828. Dicker, S. G. S., (Stromberg Motor Devices Co.). June 19, 1928. Divided on 320,848. Spray carburettors. - An auxiliary nozzle, other than the slow-running nozzle, is supplied with fuel under the control of a valve actuated from the throttle valve, the said fuel valve also controlling air to be mixed with the fuel before it issues from the nozzle. The main nozzle 15, Fig. 3, is surrounded by a choke tube 14, and the mixture passage is controlled by a throttle valve 17, Fig. 1, with which the usual slowrunning jet is associated. The throttle valve spindle carries a cam 19 actuating a lever one arm of which engages a collar 22 on the stem of a valve 23 which controls a fuel aperture in a bush 24. Within the valve casing is screwed a cylinder 27 in which slide two pistons 28, 29. The lower piston 28 has apertures 30 and above these a disc 31. Fuel from the float chamber which passes this disc flows through ports 33 and passages 34, 41 to the auxiliary nozzle 43. A plug 35 above the ports 33 divides the cylinder into two chambers the upper of which encloses the piston 29 mounted on the valve stem and loaded by a spring 39. This piston controls the flow of air, which has entered at 40, through ports 36, passages 38, 42 and apertures 44 to the fuel passage of the auxiliary nozzle. The cam 19 has two projections which actuate the fuel valve when the throttle is closed or slightly open, and when it approaches the fully open position. While the throttle is in or near its closed position, fuel collects in the cylinder 27, and if the throttle be then opened quickly to accelerate, the fuel between the disc 31 and plug 35 will be forced through the nozzle 43.
