5228. Dawson, Sir A. T., and Buckham, G. T. March 1. Naval mountings. -Consists in constructing the side-armour of a war-vessel carrying casemate gun mountings, so that the portion A<1> above and below the casemate and between the wings A is of the same semicircular contour as the shield B of the gun mounting. The gun B<1> and sight B<2> are free from obstruction, when elevated or depressed, at all angles of training. The shield B extends somewhat above and below the port in the armour A'.
