Naval mountings.-Relates to pedestal mountings for casemate guns, and consists in disposing the elevating and training gears E<Î>, F<Î>, which are in duplicate on each side of the gun, and the cross-connected sighting-gears H<2>, below the level of the sill-plate c<1> of the casemate. With this arrangement, the depth of the shield D is reduced, and the gunners, who are preferably seated upon the platforms G, are protected by the side armour E of the ship, and are free to pass from one side of the gun to the other beneath the sill plate. The sighting and laying gears can pass beneath the wings F of the casemate armour, whereby a larger training- arc is obtainable.
