Machine guns.-Comprises a metal cap or shield to protect the front end of the water jacket of a machine gun from bullets or other missiles. The protecting-cap B is fitted on to the front cap A of the water jacket, being formed with a rear flange B<2> and a forwardly projecting flange B<3> of arcuate formation resting upon the muzzle attachment of the barrel. A resilient pad b<2> is interposed between the protecting-cap B and the water-jacket cap A. Opposite to the foresight b<4>, the flange B<2> is cut away at b<3>. The protecting-cap is secured in position by a band B<1> passing through loops b' in the ends of rearwardly-extending metal strips b.
