Machine guns.- Relates to guns of the barrel-recoiling type having a muzzle attachment for increasing recoil, of which one part is connected to the barrel and the other to a stationary portion of the gun. The invention consists in combining with the muzzle attachment a device for concealing the flash that issues from the apertures in the muzzle attachment. Fig. 1 shows the invention applied to a Vickers gun having the usual muzzle attachment comprising a cup A<1> fixed to the barrel A and a sleeve B<1> fixed to the water jacket and provided with apertures b<1> and a front. cone B<2>. In the present instance, a hood C is provided around the apertures b<1>, and is tapered in front to direct the flame on to a plate D<1> carried by a flared extension D of the cone B<2>. To prevent flame issuing from the end of the member D, holes d, Fig. 2, and a mushroom-shaped member E are provided, the bullet passing with small clearance through a central plug E<1> to give a sealing effect. Holes d<1> may be provided behind the plate D<1> in this construction.
