Bands &c., strengthening; lids and covers; corner joints; folding boxes.-Boxes of fragile material, such as paper, cardboard, leatherboard, papier mÔchÚ, &c., for hats, millinery, drapery, &c. are strengthened on the sides, bottom, or lid by means of strips C of wood &c. arranged diagonally inside or outside the box. The strips may be arranged crossways and mortised at their meeting edges. The inside of the box is provided with one or more rings or hoops G fixed permanently or detachably in clips or holders F. The upper edges of the sides are flanged at a<2>, and are secured at the corners by temporary or other clips E. When the fastenings for the flanges and the hoop G are of a temporary nature, the box may be collapsed. The lid is secured by loops secured to the box and passed over the lid, the bights of the loops being drawn together by string or other means.
