Bands, strengthening.-The sides and preferably the bottom and lid of a cardboard or like box are formed with one or more pleats or folds to constitute stiffening belts or strips, the folds d shown in the Figure being central double folds with the two parts directed towards each other. The box illustrated has two sides and the bottom formed from one piece of material, the remaining sides and also the lid being each formed from a separate blank. The pleats are secured to the box sides &c. by wire stitches or staples.
