Aerial machines without aerostats; planes, arrangement of; propelling; steering.-In a flying-machine of the type having a propeller arranged between two sets of superposed planes so that the currents induced by the propeller produce a lifting effect on the planes, the two sets of planes are arranged, one set in front and the other behind the propeller, and can be adjusted simultaneously or independently. Further sets of planes adjustable about longitudinal axes may be provided at the sides of the propeller. The planes l at the front and rear of one or more propellers c are pivoted at their front edges, or farther back, upon transverse axes k, and the planes of each series are connected together by rods n, which may be connected together by a rod o or other means allowing the series of planes to be operated independently or simultaneously. The planes may be curved transversely of the machine, and the top planes may extend beyond the framework, either laterally or rearwardly, to give greater supporting-area.
