Abstract

20,877. Higginbottom, J. Sept. 13. [Cognate Application, 8663/10.] Aerial machines without aerostats ; a e r i a l machines coupled in pairs; planes, arrangement and construction of. -Biplane or multiplane machines are provided with n a rrow fixed or adjustable auxiliary planes, arranged in series between, and extending to the ends of, the upper and lower main planes on each side'of the deck for the pilot &c. The auxiliary planes C between the main planes A, B are secured to laths F, extending between supports D which may be inclined or vertical. The planes may also be applied to a double biplane machine comprising front and rear sets of planes connected by a deck or gangway, and having propellers arranged behind each set of planes. According to the Provisional Specification, the auxiliary planes may be used on a monoplane machine, or with a deck without main supporting-planes. Steering.-Fig. 8 shows the auxiliary planes arranged so that their inclination may be varied. Their leading edges are pivoted at F<1> to a fixed support D, and their rear edges to supports D' which can be moved by a hand - lever P and link L.
