Aerial machines without aerostats; adapted to travel on land or water;planes, construction and arrangement of; framework; shock of landing, deadening.-An aerial machine is provided with a pair of main planes C carried by a number of resilient hoops D, to the inner two of which the road wheels N are secured. Freely-swinging vertical planes G are mounted between main planes, which are provided with separately-operable balancing- planes A. Between the rear bearing-planes E, vertical rudders F are mounted. The elevating and bearing planes are provided with pockets formed on their underside at the leading edge for the purpose of getting a better lifting effect. The rear part of the machine is supported when on the ground by wheels mounted on a frame 0, which is pivoted to the machine. When a certain velocity has been attained, the frame 0 is swung backwards so as to tilt the planes and enable the machine to rise. Propelling is effected by propellers H, H<1>, and by a propeller H' placed behind the others and actuated independently of the front propellers. Steering.-Superposed diamond-shaped elevating- planes L are carried by a frame M so mounted that the frame and the planes L may be moved bodily to one side or other of the machine. The planes L swing about their axes.
