Abstract

14,157. Caproni, F. Oct. 6. Aerial machines without aerostats ; planes, arrangement of ; shock of landing, deadening; aerial machines adapted to travel also on land; propelling; cars and cabins.-An aeroplane comprises three superposed planes 4, 5, 6, diagonal stay-wires 18 one end of which is fixed to the central plane the other end being fixed to the upper or lower planes, a fuselage 2 on each side of the longitudinal axis of the machine each fuselage being provided with a propeller 25 at its forward end, and a landing-gear comprising three sets of wheels 26, 27, 28 two sets 26, 27 of which are mounted on frames 29 secured to the lower plane 6, the axles 36, 37, Fig. 5, of the wheels in such sets being secured to the respective frame by elastic bands 40, 41, and the forward axle 36 of each of such sets being also connected to the frame by two links 44, each of which is pivoted at one end to the axle and at the other to a member 45 universally jointed at 46 to the frame 29. The planes are supported by uprights 13, 14. The ends 15, 16 of the uprights 13 pass through sockets 13<3> on cross-pieces 13<1>, Fig. 1<a>, fixed to the longitudinal members of the planes, and are secured by pins 13<2>. The ends 17, 17<1> of the uprights 14 fit into sockets 14', also fixed to the longitudinal members of the planes. Additional stay-wires 18<1>, Fig. 3, may be provided transversely of the planes. The axles 36, 37, Fig. 5, of the sets 26, 27 of landing-wheels are connected by metallic rods 42 through pivoted joints, the rods being secured by elastic bands 43 to the frame 29 ; beneath each rod are arranged stays attached to a central extensible upright. The axle of the forward landing- wheels 50, Fig. 3, mounted beneath the front of the car 19 is elastically secured to a pivoted member 52 secured to the frame 54 by an elastic tie 55 ; the rear skate 57 is similarly secured to the frame 58. A tail-plane 7, an horizontal rudder 8, and three interconnected vertical rudders 9 are provided.
