To all whom it may concern.
Be it known that I, ANDY Z. THOMAS, a citizen of the United States, residing at Mapleton, in the county of Peoria and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Toy Aeroplanes, of which the following is a specification.
My invention relates to improvements in toy aeroplanes.
An important object of the invention is to provide a toy aeroplane, having means for rotating the propellers from the i'( tating wheels of the chassis, as the toy 1S drawn over the road-bed or the like.
A further object of the invention is to provide a toy of the above mentioned character, which is simple in construction and cheap to manufacture.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawings forming a part of this specification, and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a front end elevation of a toy embodying my invention, and,
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the same.
In the drawings, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of my invention, the numeral 5 designates the fuselage of the toy aeroplane, which preferably tapers downwardly. This fuselage may be formed of wood or suitable material. Vertical and horizontal rudders 6 and 7 are connected with the rear end of the fuselage.
Th numeral 8 designates approximately V-shaped brackets included in the chassis, and these brackets carry a rotatable axle 9, having wheels 10 rigidly secured to its ends. The rear end of the fuselage 5 is supported by a bracket 11, rigidly secured thereto, having a wheel 12 rotatably connected therewith.
The numerals 13 and let designate upper and lower transverse planes, which may be formed of wood or like material, and rigidly connected by vertical struts 15. The lower plane 1 1 has the brackets 8 rigidly secured thereto, while a member or block 16, representing an engine, is carried by the fuselage,
at its forward end, at the center of the plane 14.
The numeral 17 designates propeller shafts, journaled through openings in the struts 15, and carrying propellers 18, at their forward ends.
Rigidly secured upon the propeller shafts 17 are groove pulleys 19, engaging a flexible endless element 20, extending downwardly to pass over grooved guide pulleys 21, which are angularly arranged, and secured to the lower plane 14. The flexible element then extends downwardly over a grooved pulley 22, rigidly mounted upon the axle 9.
From the foregoing description it is obvious that the rotation of the axle 9, will drive the pulley 22, driving the flexible element 20, in turn driving the two propellers. The axle 9 is rotated by the wheels 10, traveling over the road-bed or the like.
It is to be understood that the form of my invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of my invention, or the scope of the subjoined claims.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:-
1. A toy aeroplane comprising a fuselage, a transverse plane secured to the forward end of the fuselage, a second transverse plane arranged above the first named transverse plane, struts arranged between the planes and connecting them, propeller shafts connected with the struts, propellers carried by the shafts, a chassis supporting the forward end of the fuselage including an axle and wheels carried thereby, a grooved pulley carried by the axle, grooved pulleys carried by the propeller shafts and angularly arranged with relation to the first named grooved pulley, grooved guide pulleys carried by the aeroplane near its forward end, and a flexible endless element passing about thegrooved pulleys of the propeller shafts and the grooved pulley of the axle and the guide pulleys.

In a toy aeroplane, a fuselage, transverse planes arranged near the forward end of the fuselage with one plane secured there to, struts arranged between the planes and connecting them, propeller shafts carried by the struts, propellers carried by the shafts, pulleys carried by the'shafts, brackets secured t0 the lower plane upon opposite sides of the fuselage, an axle carried by the brackets, wheels carried by the axle, a pulley carried by the axle and arranged at a right angle to the first named pulleys, angularly arranged guide pulleys secured to
