Abstract

16,012. Barlow, E., and Lord, T. July 11. Carding-engines.-The teeth of the stripping- roller are backwardly inclined relatively to the rotation of the roller, so that they will not interlock with the fibres from the cylinder or doffer, and in order to facilitate the removal of the fibrous matter from the roller by a current of air. The stripping - roller B, Fig. 1, is surrounded by a casing C having an aperture or channel C' arranged as near as convenient to the line at which the stripper leaves the cylinder and leading to a suction pipe D. The stripper roller B may be perforated, and air may be blown through the holes to assist in the detaching of the fibres; or the teeth on the roller may be arranged in groups of rows b<2> leaving channels b' between them to give the air free access to the roots of the teeth for the same purpose.
