Abstract

26,723. Hulme, S. Nov. 17. Carding-engines. - A perforated roller or a roller covered with suitable wire mesh, which may be provided with casings either inside or outside or both, and which is connected to a suction appliance, is used to convey the fibre from one cylinder to another and at the same time to clear the fibres from dust, neps, fuddy, &c. Fig. 1 shows a rotating perforated roller a applied to the taker-in h and main cylinder f of a carding-engine. The roller a is surrounded by a casing e and provided with an interior casing c having slots j, d opposite the taker-in and the main cylinder. The casing c is connected by a pipe g to a suction appliance. Packing i may be employed between the casing c and the roller a.
