Carding-engines.-In order to discharge the static electricity generated by friction between the wire brushes and the cotton fibre, a copper bar or tube A is placed close to the periphery of the doffer F, so that the cotton passes the bar on its way to the doffing-comb. The bar is connected to earth by a wire D. Thin copper clips or fingers b may be placed on the ends of the bar, the points just touching! the card surface of the doffer F. Any suitable conducting-metal may be used instead of copper.
