Abstract

18,989. Beech, H. Aug. 12. Carding - engines; combing - machines. - In apparatus for cleaning or stripping the card clothing of carding-engines, and for like purposes, such as the removal of dust and fluff in cotton combing-machines, or fabric shearing or brushing machinery, brushes or equivalent beaters are combined with one or more conduits for air in such manner that the air operates the brushes &c. and also removes the impurities loosened by the same. The brushes bare mounted in a casing A on the same spindle as a disk carrying vanes c, Figs. 1 and 2. The vane-chamber communicates with a main airconduit a by a channel d, and the dirt &c. is drawn away through an aperture e. Fig. 4 shows the device applied to a carding-engine. The device A is mounted on a frame h, and is traversed across the flat being cleaned along rods i by an endless cord l having a projection n engaging a slot in the frame h. Either air blast or suction may be utilized, and means may be provided to withdraw the brushes &c. out of contact with the surface to be cleaned.
