Carding-engines.-In carding, scribbling, and like machines in which the clothing on the doffer is divided into sections with blank spaces intervening, a roller a, Fig. 1, with saw teeth 3, Fig. 2, or spiked teeth 12, Fig. 4, is arranged below the doffer b to remove any long fibres that may lie across the main body of the fibres. The roller is composed of toothed and plain sections arranged alternately, pins on the plain sections projecting into the toothed sections, and the end sections being keyed to the shaft.
