Abstract

6633. Wilson, T. E. March 18. Cleaning machinery pneumatically.-In pneumatic apparatus for stripping or cleaning the card surfaces of carding-engines, of the kind in which the waste from the drum and doffer and from the revolving flats is separately collected, the waste is collected in filtering-chambers connected up to a single exhausting-plant. Each carding-engine may be provided, as shown, with a filtering-chamber 3 for collecting the waste from the drum 1 and doffer 2, the waste from the flats being collected in a filtering-chamber (not shown) common to a group of carding- engines and interposed in the vacuum main 4. The invention is not limited to any particular form of pneumatic or combined mechanical and pneumatic stripping-device; thus, as shown, a suction nozzle 18 is arranged, below the usual vibrating comb 7 for stripping the flats, a hood 16 enclosing a stripping-brush is applied to the drum, and a traversing suction nozzle 6 is applied to the doffer. Valves such as 21, 14, for regulating or cutting-off the vacuum, may also be provided in the flexible connexions 16 between the filtering-chamber and the stripping- devices for the drum and doffer, but preferably the chamber 3 is provided with cut-off slides 22 to which the flexible connexions are attached, the slides being provided with operating-knobs 25. The chamber 3 preferably consists of a cylinder fitted with a curved sieve 11 and provided with a removable end - cap 9. Where carding - engines are operating on different grades of cotton, each may be provided with two filtering-chambers, or a single chamber such as 3 may be divided into separate halves.
