Abstract

7565. Wilson, T. E. May 20. [Addition to 20,065/14.] Cleaning machinery pneumatically.-In a modification of the pneumatic means for removing and collecting waste from the surfaces of carding-engines described in the parent Specification, the two nozzles for dealing with the waste from the doffing-cylinder C, Figs. 1 and 2, and with the waste from the flats B are formed in a single tubular structure D extending transversely across the machine between the meeting surfaces of the main and doffing cylinders A, C. The lower nozzle d<2> deals with the waste from the doffer C, and the upper nozzle d' deals with the waste which, stripped from the flats B by a comb b, falls into a trough formed by the cover a, bottom plate d<4>, and a hinged flap d<3> on the pipe D. The suction pipe D is connected to the main branch E and auxiliary branch F through valves c, f, and the branches E, F of the several machines are connected to trunk pipes E<1>, F<1> leading through collectors to the exhausting- means. The cylindrical valve e is oscillated, to produce an intermittent suction in the pipe D, by cams g<3> on a travelling belt contacting with a roller g<1> at the upper end of a rod g. A flexible band e<3>, Fig. 3, straddling the pipe D and connected to a stem e<1> on the valve e, is attached at one end to the rod g and at the other end to a balance weight e<4>. To clean the main cylinder A, a portion of the casing a is removed, the flap d<3> turned back, and the brush applied; the valve e is disconnected from its operating-gear and the valve f opened by hand, the waste passing through the nozzle d<1> to the branch pipe F. Where it is desired to deal with the waste removed by one nozzle at a time, an inner rotatable tube with slits may be fitted within the pipe D. Two separate adjacent and parallel pipes D may be employed, the nozzles d<1>, d<2> being formed in the respective pipes and the latter connected to the branches E, F through the valves e, f.
