Abstract

18,029. Stumpf, J. July 29. Regulating.-In a compound engine, the piston e of the high-pressure cylinder, which is of the uni-directional flow type, is fitted with a mechanically-operated valve d, the arrangement being such that the whole or any desired portion of the exhaust steam from this cylinder passes through the hollow piston e and exhaust passage q to the intermediate receiver. The steam in the receiver may be utilized in turbines or other low-pressure auxiliary apparatus. Fig. 3 shows a device by which the amount of steam passing to the low-pressure cylinder s is controlled according to the demands of the auxiliary apparatus. The receiver g communicates with a pressure cylinder o controlling the position of the block t in a slot r of the eccentric sheave p which actuates the valves of the lowpressure cylinder.
