Plant.-A plant comprising a high-pressure turbine, a low - pressure turbine, and a lowpressure plant, for example a heating-plant operated by the exhaust from the high-pressure turbine, is regulated by a system of interconnected valves. The inlet valve 5 of a highpressure turbine 2 is controlled by a governor 18 and also independently by the movements of a piston 9 controlling the inlet valve 6 of a lowpressure turbine 4. The piston 9 is subjected on its lower side to the pressure in the highpressure exhaust chamber 8 and on its upper side to the pressure of a spring 11. A pipe 3 conducts steam from the chamber 8 to a pipe 21 leading to the heating-plant, a valve 19 controlling the inlet. The valve 19 is operated by a piston 20, which is subjected on its upper side to the pressure in the heating-plant and on its lower side to the pressure of a spring 22. The springs 11, 22 may be so adjusted that the valve 19 will not begin to close before the valve 6 has opened a predetermined amount. The valve 19 is connected with the valve 5 in the manner shown so that the closing of the valve 19 tends to throttle the valve 5. A pipe 27 containing an automatic reducing - valve 28 may supply steam direct from the boiler pipe 1 to the pipe 21 of the heating-plant. In a modification, oilrelay operating-gear is employed for the valves, and the valves 19, 6 are so connected that when the valve 6 has opened a certain amount, a further movement of the valve will cause the closure of the valve 19.
