Abstract

11,949. Warwick Machinery Co., and Halliwell, R. F. May 13. Exhaust, treating.-In a plant comprising a compound or multiple - expansion turbine or other prime mover in which steam is withdrawn between the stages of expansion for heating or other purposes, the supply of steam to the high or low pressure stages is controlled in accordance with the pressure between the stages or in the auxiliary apparatus. In the arrangement shown, steam which has operated on the highpressure turbine wheel 10 passes in part to the low-pressure wheel 11 by the valves 33, 34, and in part to the heating apparatus by a passage 24. The valves 33, 34, and the valve 18 controlling the supply of high pressure steam to the wheel 10 are operated by a lever 38, the fulcrum of which is carried by a piston 26 acted on by a spring 29 and the steam pressure, so that, as the pressure in the intermediate space rises, the valve 18 is closed and the valves 33, 34 are opened. The lever 38 is operated by a relay piston 40, the valve 44 of which is controlled by the governor 48. The piston returns the valve to the neutral position,by the lever 47.
