A drawrod n is arranged between the base-plate s of the carriage and the stationary guide-plate v, and carries a back-spacing pawl p for engagement with the usual letter-spacing rack r. The draw-rod is connected to an arm m of a rockshaft i, and is retracted by a spring and provided with two stops w co-operating with a stop t on the carriage. The rock-shaft i is provided with a second arm k for engagement by a bellcrank lever f connected with the back-spacing key a.
