2178. Twidale, G. F. Jan. 28. Folding boxes.-In a collapsible box of cardboard &c., narrow end wings or flaps a are provided, preferably formed as extensions of the sides b, and are connected at their lower portions below the diagonal score lines e to flaps c joined to or forming continuations of the. bottom. Attached to the bottom, at both ends of the box, are further flaps f equal in size to the flaps c and formed with supplementary flaps f<1> at their free ends. The sides b are also provided with stiffening-pieces h of depth equal to the sides and formed of double thickness at their upper ends, small spaces being left between these pieces and the box ends for the reception of the outer edges of the flaps f when the box is set up, this operation being effected by turning up the flaps c, f and folding the flap f<1> over the upper edge of the flap c, in which position it is retained by bent-over tangs g of soft metal or by equivalent means. The locking-flap f may be formed on the flap c and fold inwards; if it is made equal in depth to the box, the flap f can be dispensed with.
