Abstract

24,118. Brandes, W. Oct. 26, 1908, [Convention date]. [Addition to 16,526/08, [Class 114, Ships &c., Div. II].] Drawings to Specification. No Patent granted (Sealing fee not paid). Motor power plant.-In an improvement on the invention described in the parent Specification, applicable for propelling ships, and for working rolling-mills and hoisting-apparatus, the auxiliary engine, which always rotates in the same direction, drives a dynamo, which in turn drives an electric motor on the shaft of the main engine. The main engine is reversed by reversing the direction of rotation of the motor. When the auxiliary engine is in line with the main engine, it may be connected thereto for forward driving by means of a clutch, and the motor only be used for reverse running. When two propellers are used on a ship, only one set of driving-engines may be divided, and the auxiliary engine may reverse both main engines; or the engines for driving one propeller shaft may be used for reversing the engine of the other shaft.
