Abstract

144,331. Booth, H. S. Dec. 13, 1918. Motor power plant.-The normally stationary member a of an electric or other motor A is rotated by a second electric or other motor B, and is coupled to the rotor A<1> by a one-way clutch D with pawls d and ratchet wheel d<1> by which the shaft C is rotated at the same speed as the shaft b, but is free to rotate at a higher speed when current is supplied to the motor A. The speed of the shaft C is therefore equal to the sum of the speeds of the motors A, B. Instead of shafts b, C being co-axial, the motors A, B may have separate bed-plates and may be connected by a driving-belt. Either or both of the motors A. B may be a steam turbine, or a reciprocating steam, compressed-air, or internal-combustion engine, or an engine of the Gnome type.
