Abstract

22,257. Crossley, K. I., and Webb, W. Le P. Sept. 30. Fluid governors; transmitting-mechanism.-In an engine wherein governing is effected by varying the lift of the admission valve, for instance as described in Specification 26,869/02, [Class 7, Air and gas engines], the adjustable fulcrum C. block, link, &c., instead of being positioned by the governor, is positioned by a piston F, the pressure or vacuum within the cylinder W being determined by a governor-controlled valve J. The air, oil, or other fluid under pressure may enter the cylinder continuously from a reservoir or intermittently from a pump worked by the engine; or the cylinder may serve as the pump, being fitted with an inlet valve M and connected for instance to the valve-lever L. One piston F may position several fulcra C etc.; and one valve J may serve several cylinders W.
