Abstract

Driving - gear for winding and paying - out apparatus.-In reversing-gearing suitable for winches, a casing a is closed by detachable endcovers c, d furnished with bearing-bosses e, f, which support the driving' and driven shafts g, g'. A gear i secured to the shaft g is connected through an idler l and gears m, o upon a countershaft n to a gear k secured to the shaft g'. The gears i, k are formed internally with friction surfaces adapted to be gripped by expansible split drums p, p<1> operated by a slidable double wedge-member q splined on the shaft g<1>. Movement of the member q to the left or right effects forward and reversed driving respectively. The casing a may be partially filled with oil, which splashes into oil cups z and finds its way through ducts to the bearings e, f.
