Reversing-gearing.-Reversing and reducing gearing suitable for propelling boats comprises parallel driving and driven shafts b, c projecting from the opposite ends of a casing a, which is adapted to receive the thrust of the propeller. Gear-wheels h, k loose on the shaft c are driven in opposite directions at reduced speeds from wheels l, i fast on the shaft b. The shaft c is movable longitudinally and carries a double clutch member m adapted to be engaged alternatively with clutch surfaces e, f on the members h, k for driving in one and the other direction respectively. The thrust of the propeller, which tends to hold the clutch parts in engagement, is taken up by flanges p, q carried by the members h, k and engaged by the casing a.
