Fixed-abutment t y p e ; working- fluid supply ; packing vanes; cooling parts.- Vaporized gasoline is introduced and compressed in the cylinder of a rotary engine by the motion of the bent hinged vanes co-operating with passages in the rotor. The vanes 21, which are hinged by trunnions 20 to a rotor 13, and provided with spring-pressed packing- strips, are fitted with shoes 45 for travelling round the contour of the casing 10. Springs 48 give the vanes their initial outward movement, which draws vaporized gasoline through a pipe 17 and passages 15 into passages 25, 32, and 31 of the rotor. From the passages 25, the gasoline is drawn through valves 26 into the chamber formed between the vane and the rotor, from whence it is compressed by the inward motion of the vane, through a valve provided in a passage 29 in the rotor, into the cylinder proper, where ignition is effected by a sparking-plug 11. Exhaust takes place through a port 12 in the casing. The passage of the gasoline serves to cool the rotor and the vanes.
