Abstract

15,898. Mathot, R. E. July 7, 1908, [Convention date]. Transmitting - mechanism.-In the variable-lift valve - gear for internal - combustion engines described in Specification 22,036/08, [Class 7, Air and gas engines], the pivoted member a is connected to the governor by means of a lever S, having a slot q which engages with a pin on the member a. The pivot of the lever S is in line with the pivot of the member a when the valve is on its seat. By this means, the member a is free to move with the valve without reacting on the governor. The arrangement is applied to each of the three constructions of valve-gear described in the above-mentioned Specification. The Specification in the original form, as open to inspection under Section 91 (3) (a), comprises also modifications in which a pivot or fork is used in place of the slot q or in which the member a is moved by a track-rod of sufficient length to prevent reaction on the governor by the movements of the valve ; and comprises the application of these devices to a form of variable-lift valvegear in which a roller is adjusted by the governor between two bell-crank levers. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
