Abstract

26,089. Day, C. Nov. 11. Drawings to Specification. Starting; stopping; reversing. - A Diesel engine is started, stopped, or reversed by the action of a cam-bar actuated by a single lever, which puts the levers of the admission, exhaust, fuel, and compressed-air valves into and out of engagement with their respective cams, puts the astern and ahead cams into and out of action and opens or closes a fuel by-pass valve, of the type described in Specification 6890/08. The admission and exhaust valves are put in and out of action by depressing and raising the fulcra of the valve levers in the manner described in Specification 25,180/09. The fulcrum of one or both of these valve levers may be depressed further when stopping, in order to prevent the valve from closing on its seat and so to brake the engine. A sequence of operation is described by which the engine may be reversed by moving the lever from its extreme left to its extreme right position, or may be started in either direction by moving the lever from the central to either extreme position.
