Starting.-In a device in which the starting-valve is actuated by air supplied through distributing- valves and manually-controlled valves, for starting in either direction, the distributing-valves and manually-operated valves are lift valves. Manuallyoperated admission and exhaust valves h<2>, g<3> for one direction or h<3>, g<2> for the other direction of running are actuated to supply and exhaust air from the valves c, f respectively or vice versa. The valve d acts on an extra exhaust valve for either direction of running, and is opened during the interval between the opening of the valves c, d.
