Abstract

9315. Gardner, T. H., and Gardner, E. April 22. Gas and like engines, valve-gear for and governing in. Gear for operating a valve stem h from a cam a consists of a striking-lever i pivoted atj, and a thrustpiece e carried by levers d, f pivoted respectively upon the cam-actuated plunger c and upon a fixed part g. For varying the lift of the valve, the lever f is adjusted by hand or by the governor, by means of the rod l connected to the spindle n, Fig. 3, pivoted within a boss on the lever. To permit of adjustment of the levers f in a multi-cylinder engine while some of the thrust-pieces e are in engagement with the valve stems, a spring q is provided between bushes o, p on the rod l so that the latter may move relatively to the lever f. The invention is shown applied to the inlet valves.
