Guides and rests.-A work-support for facilitating the operations of smoothing or abrading the internal or external edges or faces of curved work of various radii, or straight wood or metal work, is constructed with a fence 1 adjustable in a vertical guide in the machine frame 3 by means of a screw 4, and carrying studs 7 adjustable in guides 1<b> in the fence. Arms 10<a>, projecting from sleeves adjustable angularly about the studs 7, carry guiding-pieces 9, 9<a>, which may be accurately aojusted to support any required piece of work 12 in contact with the horizontal drum 6, which may have an abrading-surface, or over which an abrading-band may run. In an alternative construction, flat tables may be pivotally carried by the studs 7, and be provided with set-screws bearing on the sides of the fence and enabling an accurate horizontal adjustment to be made.
