FRED DORNBUSCH, OF OTTAWA, ILLINOIS.
PORTABLE WOODWORKING MACHINE.
' Application filed august 2o, 1923. serial kNofeaaeaa` .To all whom t may concern: v
Be it known that I, FRED DoRNBUsoH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Ottawa, in the county of La Salle and State of Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Portable Woodworking Machines, of which the following is a specification.
It is an object of my .invention to provide a new and improved portable wood-working machine which can be readily moved from place to place for use in the field or on the job,Y of simple, durable, eflicient and ineX- pensive construction.Y It is a further ob- F ject to provide a machine of this type which may be readily and quickly adjusted and applied to tables or benches of various lheight-s or thickness.
rlhe above and other features of novelty, advantages and capabilities will become ap parent from a detailed description of the accompanying drawings in which I have illustrated one form of my invention, but the construction there shown will be understood as illustrative only and not as defining the limits of my invention.
Fig. 1 is a side elevational view of a portable wood-working machine embodying one form of my invention.
Fig. 2 is an elevational view of the cutting blades mounted in place.
Fig. 8 is a top plan view of the same, and
Fig. 4 is side elevational view of one of the tongue and groove blades.
Referring to the dra-wings in detail, the
machine as illustrated consists of a base 10,'
integrally provided with a horizontal bearing 11, in which is rotatably mounted a shaft 12, which shaft in turn, is by m'eans of a flexible coupling 13, connected to a suitable motor (not shown).' The shaft 12, has'fastened to its inner end by any suitable means,
a beveled gear 14. The base 10, is integrallyv provided with an arm or extension 15 having a suitable vertical bearing or opening in which is rotatably mounted a sha-ft 16, having non-rotatably mounted on its lower end a beveled gear 17 designed to mesh with the beveled gear 14. The shaft 16 extends upwardly through the table or support 18 and has non-rotatably mounted on its upper end a head 19. Mounted on the bearing eX- tension 15a, of the arm 15 is a collar 20, which collar is integrally provided with a plate 21. Thev plate 21 is adapted to be se cured to the work bench or table support 18, by means of suitable screws as shown. In order to accommodate the machines to tables of different heights or supporting boards of different thickness the collar 20 may be vertically adjusted on the extension 19 by means of the set screws 22.
By providing the collar 2O with the integral plate 21, the table can be readily lined up with the cutting tool or rather the cutting tool with the table; Adjustably mounted on opposite sides of the head 19 are suitable cutting tools or blades.
In Fig. 1 and 2 there is shown applied to the head, blades 23 for cutting quarter round molding', while in Fig. 4 there is shown blades 24 for cutting a. tongue and groove. In both cases the blades are provided with suitabley slots through which pass suitable set screws 25 so' that the blades may be readily and quickly adjusted as described.
From the foregoingrdescription it will be apparent that I have provided a machine whichv possesses t0 the fullest extent the features heretofore pointed out as well as many other inherent advantages.
Having thus described my invention, I claim:
In alight portable wood-working machine, the combination of a base having an upwardly extending'arm providedy with a horizontal bearing, and a vertical arm provided with a verticalbearing, all formed integrally with the base, a driving shaft mounted in the horizontal bearing, a driven shaft ,mounted in the vertical bearing, an
'adjustable' collar mounted on the vertical.
scribed'my name to this specification in the presence of Witnesses.
Y FRED DoRNBUsoH. Witnesses: l
CHARLES Cos'rELLo,
JOHN W. MCCAUSLIN.'
