Motor road vehicles.-Relates to variable-speed gearing of the class in which a series of bevel - wheels fast on a motor-car axle are constantly in mesh with driving- pinions clutchable to a perpendicular shaft. The diameters of the driving - pinions increase from the driven axle. Wheels A<3>, A<1>, A<2>, fast on the differential axle B, mesh constantly with pinions B<3>, B<2>, B<1> of diameters increasing in such a ratio as to yield the low, intermediate, and fast speeds, respectively. The pinions B<2>, B<1> are carried by cylindrical hubs C', C', fitted one within the other and supported externally by a casing G. A slidable portion F of the engine shaft carries a square or hexagonal clutch head F<1> adapted to engage and drive corresponding female members E', E' in the hubs C<2>, C<1>. A smaller clutch head F<2> is adapted to drive a member E<3> in the boss C<3> of the pinion B<3>, which is supported inside the hub C<2>. Reversal is effected through an internallytoothed ring L on the hub C<1> constantly meshing with idlers M rotating on fixed spindles P. A toothed pinion N driving the idlers M is formed with a female member O for engaging the head F<1>.
